Nature Lovers! This tour will take you for a boat ride on the Río Frío, starting at Los Chiles, near the Nicaraguan border.

This river is part of the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge – a Ramsar site- here you will find one of the most diverse flora and fauna habitats in Costa Rica.

Along the river you can see lots of birds like the snake-bird, herons, cormorants and animals such as: howler, spider or even white face monkeys, three-toed sloth’s and some reptiles like caimans, Jesus Christ lizards and turtles.

Pickup was on time and the ride there was long but comfortable. We all saw lots of monkeys and the lunch that was provided was delicious.

Our trip was absolutely amazing! Roy was a wonderful guide and helped us see all kinds of beautiful wildlife. He was very knowledgeable about the Costa Rican agriculture and pointed out sugar cane farms, cattle auctions, bull fighting arenas, and pineapple farms along the way. The tour down the river was wonderful! Roy took amazing photos and shared them with all of us after the tour. We saw sloths, three kinds of monkey, and more birds and caymans than we could count. Amazing experience!

Nestor and Chili (I hope my memory has that correct) were great guides and knowledgeable about the flora and fauna but more importantly made the trip personable and rewarding. Definitely recommend going with them to Caño Negro if you want to see species you only get to see here.

Great experience. It was a long drive from La Fortuna - 2 hrs in each direction. But totally worth it. Also one of the most relaxed tours we did in Costa Rica where we had to do no walking. Sit in the boat and just spot the wildlife as you pass by. We saw a ton of birds and animals. Iguanas - bigger than any we have seen before. One Sloth. Lots of interesting species of birds and other animals. Lunch was surprisingly very fresh and tasty too. Totally worth the trip.
